248 / museum

Out past Xian, last year in China.. sorry, can't remember
where, but a good museum

oddly, people had left money at this group
of sculptures

some lovely pieces, or were they copies?

the real deal, I'd say

am thinking these were from burial sites, along the Silk Road,
could they be Scythian? The dry air & sand kept some artifacts
in amazingly good condition, I recall from reading
 all Sir Aurel Stein's books.

247 / edits

Was checking some camera cards, & saw again how I edit
differently at different times:
here are more from my Silk Road trip last year
above is near the end of the Wall

the garden of the Forbidden palace

246 / distant

Find it strange that the moon can look so much larger
with the camera zoom,

while the fluke of a whale doesn't -
even though its closer, with the zoom at full stretch
- its always a thrill to see them, they are heading south again

this was a section of the arc of a sunset rainbow
all on the same evening

245 / spring

Yesterday it was stormy, so I picked the flowers
in my garden that would otherwise perish

& photographed them

they are so delicate
compared to most Australian native flowers
I love both.

The last of our father's brothers died yesterday.
Alan Heaton
He enjoyed a long, full life, & will be missed by so many
friends & family.

244 / a few more

Couldn't have done this with paint on the print,
not easily, anyway

The old, old lichens at Galisteo

still watching

With a very clever printer, I guess you could do this,
in the old days, though not as simply as digitally

This one worked well on a large canvas

...now I can get back to painting!
Haven't made new travel bookings as yet.

243 / slight changes

In India, in the 70's, it was hard to get colour film;
b/w just didn't do it for me, & then some I only have as contact prints,
so thats when a computer was great: I can not only fix the
scratched little contacts, but also add a little colour.
India is always magnificently coloured.

Went twice to the Pushkar Mela, an unforgettable treat.
The saddler used vivid colour, but I used paler ones to give
that old memory feel

This was around '69, in Ubud, Bali

also in Pushkar - & all parts of India -
lighting up a bedi

this worked much better with 2 photos
- its a self portrait. The silhouette is me taking a one handed
shot at the beach.

242 / & by computer

Some of the photo alterations worked much
better once I got a computer
(Cape Cod)

& /or I needed to make them a bit more
'professional'
(Mexico)

you may have seen them in some books I illustrated
(north of San Francisco)

these days I don't get prints so often,
though I like making photo books,
& its great to see photos on a big screen

had never seen an iced tree before that winter
in Colorado
