In Xian, there was a display, loosely based on a changing
of the guard, near the old city walls. I thought it might
be more stirring with a less modern backdrop
a similar idea, in Jiayuguan.

its a kind of history theme park, now.

to me it looks quite bold & assured, but that's from a western
perspective; I'd like to know the message
At different times in China's long past, it was a place of exile.
To me, with such a view, it would be a reward ~
maybe not, if the 'barbarians' were about to appear.
